When Corporate Enthusiasm Meets Worker Hesitation 🤖🚀

The latest findings from the Fall 2024 Workforce Index reveal an unsurprising disconnect between executive enthusiasm and employee adoption of AI technology. Executives worldwide remain steadfast in their commitment to AI, with 99% planning investments this year, highlighting its centrality to business strategy. However, for the first time since generative AI emerged, there’s a noticeable cooling in excitement and uptake among the global workforce. Survey data from over 17,000 desk workers indicates that in countries like France and the U.S., AI adoption rates have plateaued, while interest has dipped by 6% percentage points globally. This trend suggests a growing hesitance among workers, who often feel using AI might be perceived as “cheating” or reducing their competence.

Despite these challenges, the potential productivity boost from AI remains significant. Slack’s survey points out that employees harbor hopes AI will free up time for more meaningful tasks, though many fear it could lead to increased busy work. Encouragingly, there’s a strong desire among workers to upskill, with 76% eager to become AI experts, driven by personal goals and industry trends. Both executives and employees agree that learning and skill development are crucial, underscoring the need for businesses to bridge the gap between AI potential and current employee sentiments. The net of these findings, get AI training (btw we do that and we also facilitate board discussions if you need it) for you and your team and everybody will be happier with AI and with their jobs!

OpenAI’s New “Operator”

OpenAI is gearing up to launch its innovative AI agent, Operator, in January, which is promising to elevate how ChatGPT can interact with users’ tasks. This cutting-edge agent is designed to autonomously perform actions like booking travel or generating complex code, moving beyond traditional, instruction-based programs. Operator will initially debut as a research preview through OpenAI’s developer API, competing with similar offerings from Anthropic and Google’s Jarvis. So, if you are using the OpenAI API you’ll have access to play with it, and if not, you’ll need to sit tight and see how it goes. We are putting our eggs in the you.com basket and excited for something similar coming Q4.

📱Gemini on iPhone

Google has made it easier than ever for iOS users to engage with their Gemini by launching the Gemini app on the iPhone. This app is all about accessibility, providing a straightforward chat window for users to interact with Google’s AI using text, voice, or camera. A notable feature of the app is Gemini Live, an interactive chat mode similar to ChatGPT’s voice mode, which has now made its debut on iPhones after being available on Android. This app is designed to keep Gemini at your fingertips, ready to assist with a quick tap, making AI interactions a seamless part of your daily routine.

While the Gemini app offers impressive integration with other Google services like YouTube Music and Google Maps, it’s not without limitations. Unlike Siri, it can’t modify phone settings or interact with non-Google apps. However, its strategic placement on your homescreen is a clever move in the competitive AI chatbot landscape, aiming to turn AI interaction into a regular habit. The race to occupy your homescreen is heating up, and Gemini’s ease of use and clever integrations could give it an edge. We’ll be testing it out and let you know how it goes and if it’s as snazzy as Google says it is.

 AI Art Sells for $1M! 🤯 🖼️

In a groundbreaking auction, a painting of Alan Turing, crafted by the AI-powered artist Ai-Da Robot, has fetched a staggering $1,084,800 (£836,667). This digital masterpiece, titled “A.I. God,” attracted 27 enthusiastic bids, far surpassing its initial estimate of $120,000 to $180,000. Sotheby’s, the renowned auction house, heralded the sale as a momentous event, marking a new era in the art market by setting a benchmark for artworks created by humanoid robots. The piece celebrates Alan Turing, the legendary mathematician and pioneer of computer science, who laid the groundwork for modern AI.

This historic sale not only underscores the growing intersection between technology and creativity but also highlights the transformative potential of AI in the art world. Ai-Da Robot, the creator of this artwork, is celebrated as the first humanoid robot artist to reach such heights at auction, demonstrating the expanding boundaries of art creation. As AI continues to influence various sectors, this event signals a shift in how we perceive and value art, inviting enthusiasts and collectors to rethink traditional concepts of authorship and creativity. I’m curious to see how this impacts the value of other AI art and whether we’ll see more humanoid robot artists hitting the scene. This is definitely a moment in art history.
